Wedding Cars Adelaide

The Adelaide Hills wedding circuit is the busiest run we make. Mount Lofty House has a front-car-park approach that works in any weather and a back driveway that we avoid in October-to-April thunderstorm afternoons because the steeper section sits in the shade and dries last. Glen Ewin Estate sits five minutes off the South Eastern Freeway with a long approach past the Pulpshed; we usually pause at the gates for portraits before driving up. Wallis Auchendarroch in Mount Barker is the busiest non-winery Hills venue we cover, and the Hahndorf Inn parking convention on a busy tourist Saturday is to drop on Pine Avenue and walk in. CBD weddings sit in a different rhythm. Tight venues. St Peter's Cathedral on Pennington Terrace is the heritage ceremony anchor, with a 90-second drive to the Adelaide Oval for portraits or a six-minute drive to the Stamford Plaza for the reception. The Mortlock Wing of the State Library on North Terrace is the most-photographed CBD ceremony interior in our calendar. Adelaide Town Hall on King William Street is the registry-office route many couples take; the kerbside pickup convention is the King William Street eastern side of the building, not Pirie Street. Single car works.

Coastal Adelaide bookings (Glenelg foreshore, Brighton Jetty, Henley Sailing Club) pivot around the photo-stop window. Golden hour on a summer evening at Glenelg Jetty is the most-requested wedding-photo stop in the city. We arrive with time to spare and we keep the car parked off the Esplanade because Moseley Square goes pedestrian on Friday and Saturday nights. Four vehicle classes cover almost every Adelaide wedding: stretch limousine (Chrysler 300 and Lincoln Town Car family), classic and vintage cars (Bentley, Rolls-Royce, vintage Daimler, Jaguar), executive sedans (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8) for low-key registry weddings, and stretch Hummers or SUV-stretches for larger bridal parties. Four lanes only. The right class depends on the venue access road and the bridal-party headcount, not on what the website looks fancy with.

The stretch limousine is the high-volume wedding car. High volume. A Chrysler 300 stretch handles 8 to 11 passengers, sits low for kerbside entry, and photographs cleanly against any venue. The white-ribbon-as-standard look is built around the stretch. The classic or vintage car is usually the second car on the day: the bride-and-father arrival vehicle or the bride-and-groom departure car. Bentleys and Rolls-Royces work best at paved venues in dry weather, and we will tell you on the call which classics in the rotation are touring-ready for a Hills drive in winter.

The executive sedan is for the bride who didn't want a stretch. Different vibe. Registry-office weddings, second marriages, small intimate ceremonies, and elopements all suit a black Mercedes S-Class or BMW 7 Series profile. The vehicle reads "considered private occasion" rather than "wedding party". The stretch Hummer and SUV-stretch handle 14 to 16 passengers for bridal parties that need the bridesmaids and groomsmen in one car; the Hummer is also the wet-weather option for some Hills weddings because the ride height handles the back lanes better than a low-slung stretch.

The rain plan is per-venue. Per-venue plan. For Mount Lofty House, the wet-weather backup is to keep the bride-and-father arrival photos inside the porte-cochère and the bridal-party portraits inside the venue's covered terrace, and we do not drive the back lane in a thunderstorm. For Glen Ewin Estate, the wet-weather backup is the heritage Pulpshed for portraits and the shaded driveway approach for the arrival photo. For Adelaide Hills Convention Centre in Hahndorf, we use the indoor courtyard for portraits and the Convention Centre front entrance for arrival.

If the access road becomes unsafe (a flash storm at Mount Lofty Summit closes the back drive, a Hills storm makes a winery access lane impassable for a low-slung stretch), the vehicle swap is to a Hummer or executive sedan with higher ride height.
